Our body is the vessel that carries our soul through life and allows us to experience the physical world. It has its own knowledge and its own wisdom. The relationship between a human and their body is called "body awareness". The more we are anchored in our body, the easier it is for us to live in the here and now and to interact with the people in our direct environment. Being well grounded also helps us experience states of emotional flow and let go of feelings such as sadness or rage.

 

If our relation to our own body has been disrupted, we lose our emotional balance and often are not able to resolve conflicts or recover from setbacks. The so-called "resiliance" (ability to cope mentally or emotionally with a crisis or to return to pre-crisis status quickly) has been disrupted. Just as with physical injuries, our organism is able to heal itself from emotional wounds, and we can support it in doing so. But many of us have lost this ability of self-regulation early in their lives, so that they now are not connected to their body-awareness.
